On Thursday I bought the new German stamps.
One was this:
175 years Saxonia (Day of the Stamp) (issued 05-09-2013)
The Saxonia was the first working locomotive built in Germany. The Saxonia was built by the German engineer Johann Andreas Schubert (1808-1870) as England was the only country constructing locomotives.
The locomotive had a power of 54 PS and a limit speed of 50 km/h. She drove between Dresden and Leipzig. What happened to the Saxonia after 1843 is not clear.
In 1989 East Germany built a working reproduction which is now in the Dresden Transport Museum.
