Endangered Marine Animals

Yesterday I got a cover from Spain and inside were my first mint stamps from Spain.

Spain is a country in Southern Europe bordering on Portugal, France, Andorra and Gibraltar and the Spanish exclaves Ceuta and Melilla are also bordering on Morocco. Spain is a member of the UN, the NATO, the EU and the OECD. Spain's capital is Madrid and it's head of state is King Juan Carlos I.

The stamps were this:

Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and Vietnam

This is the 50th post in my blog!

On Monday I got a postcard from Singapore and on it was a complete stamp set.
The stamp set was this:


40 years Diplomatic Relations between Singapore and Vietnam (issued 12-09-2013)
- Grey Peacock Pheasant
- Red Junglefowl
(It is a joint issue with Vietnam)

The postcard was sent on the issue date of the stamps and the stamps were cancelled with a first day special postmark.

Globalisation of Singapore

On Monday I got a postcard from Singapore and on it was a complete stamp set.
The stamp set was this:

Birth of Prince George

On Monday I got some stamps from Gibraltar as later birthday present. Gibraltar was not in my collection before, so this are my first stamps.

One stamp was this:

On 22nd July Duchess Catherine gave birth to her first child with Prince William. The full name of the child is George Alexander Louis. He is the third in line of the succession of the British Throne.

Children's Books written by Roald Dahl

On Monday I got some stamps from Gibraltar as later birthday present. Gibraltar was not in my collection before, so this are my first stamps.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the Southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula and is bordered by Spain. Gibraltar issues since 1886 it's own stamps.

World Oceans Day

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country were the United Nations.

The United Nations issues since 1951 their own stamps. The United Nations stamps are issued in Geneva (in SFr.), Vienna (in Euro) and New York (in USD).

My stamps come from New York.
One set is this:

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before.

- Short-horned Chameleon from New York (from set of four)
- Painted Tiger Parrot from Geneva (from set of four)
- Bornean Peacock-Pheasant from Vienna (from set of four)

The United Nations were founded in 1945 as International Organisation. The most important tasks of the United Nations are the protection of the world peace, the compliance of the law of nations, the protection of the human rights and the advancement of the international cooperation.
The United Nations issues since 1951 their own stamps. The United Nations stamps are issued in Geneva (in SFr.), Vienna (in Euro) and New York (in USD). 

My stamps come from New York.

Man of Steel

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Jersey.

Jersey is the largest Canal Island and a British Crown Dependancy. The capital of Jersey is Saint Helier. Jersey issues it's own stamps since 1969.

Henry Cavill, the Man of Steel, was born on Jersey.

Every stamp of this set has any special function.

Dorcas Gazelle

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Israel.

Israel is a state in Western Asia and is bordered by Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian National Authority. The capital of Israel is Jerusalem. Israel is a member of the UN and of the OECD.

Endangered Species from the Desert to the Arctic (issued 11-06-2013)
(It is a joint issue with Greenland)

The stamp shows a Dorcas Gazelle (Gazella dorcas). The Dorcas Gazelle is one of the smallest gazelles and lives in semi-desert and deserts of North Africa. The Dorcas Gazelle does not need much water, because she gets enough water from her food.
The stamp shows also a Polar Bear.

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Iceland.

Iceland is a country in Northern Europe and the second-largest insular state in Europe. The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik. Iceland is a member of the UN, of the NATO and of the OECD.

If you heat the stamps, the most of the violet stripes will disappear.

Giant Panda

Giant Panda (issued 20-02-2013)

The Giant Panda (scientific name: Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is a bear only living in Chinese provinces Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi (and some zoos in the whole world). The Giant Panda is the sign of the WWF.

The War of 1812

The War of 1812 (issued 16-03-2012)

The War of 1812 between the United States of America and Great Britain took place in 1812 and 1815.
One stamp shows Major-General Sir Isaac Brock. He was born on Guernsey as the son of a relatively wealthy family and was posted to Canada in 1802. He won together with War Chief Tecumseh a decisive and bloodless victory in Detroit. He was shot shortly after, while defending Queenston.
The other stamp shows Tecumseh.

Polar Bear

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Greenland.

Animals from the Arctic to the Desert (issued 11-06-2013)
(It is a joint issue with Israel)

The stamp shows a Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus). The Polar Bear is one of the largest bears of the world and lives within the Arctic Circle. The Polar Bear eats mostly seals.
In the background is also the picture of a Dorcas Gazelle.

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Greenland.

Greenland is the largest island of the world and an autonomous region of Denmark. The capital of Greenland is Nuuk. Greenland issues it's own stamps since 1938.

The War of 1812

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before.

The War of 1812 between the United States of America and Great Britain took place in 1812 and 1815.
One stamp shows Tecumseh. He was an outstanding leader and orator. He united to warriors of some First Nations to defend their culture and lands. Tecumseh and his confederacy supported the British in the war. He was killed at the Battle of the Thames.
The other stamp shows Sir Isaac Brock.
It is the first stamp of a series. The second was issued in 2013.

Beatrix Potter

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Alderney.

The life of Beatrix Potter (issued 31-07-2013)

Beatrix Potter (1866-1943) was a British authoress and illustrator of children's books. She wrote many books with animal characters full of personality. Some famous characters are Peter Rabbit, Mr Jeremy Fisher, Tom Kitten and Jemima Puddle-Duck.

This week was my birthday and I got many stamps. Most of the stamps are from countries that I had not had in my collection before. One new country was Alderney.

Alderney is the third-largest Canal Island and as a part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey a British Crown Dependency. The capital of Alderney is Saint Anne. Alderney issues since 1983 it's own stamps.

150th Anniversary of JM Barrie (issued 04-11-2010)

The stamps show Peter Pan who is the most famous character of JM Barrie.
Peter Pan is the protagonist in some stories and the only boy who can not grow up. He lives on the fictitious island Neverland and is the leader of the Lost Boys. The antagonist is the leader of the pirates called Captain Hook.

Day of the Stamp

On Thursday I bought the new German stamps.

175 years Saxonia (Day of the Stamp) (issued 05-09-2013)

The Saxonia was the first working locomotive built in Germany. The Saxonia was built by the German engineer Johann Andreas Schubert (1808-1870) as England was the only country constructing locomotives.
The locomotive had a power of 54 PS and a limit speed of 50 km/h. She drove between Dresden and Leipzig. What happened to the Saxonia after 1843 is not clear.
In 1989 East Germany built a working reproduction which is now in the Dresden Transport Museum.

200 years Skat

On Thursday I bought the new German stamps.

Skat is a card game played for the first time in Altenburg in Thuringia 200 years ago. Today Skat is one of the most popular card games.

2015 World Stamp Exhibition

On Tuesday I got a postcard from Singapore with a whole stamp set on it.
